About the Show

Damian Gillen’s beloved one-man adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. In this tour-de-force performance, a single actor brings to life Scrooge, Marley, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, Tiny Tim, and all the other characters in this timeless tale of redemption. For nearly 30 years, Bah Humbug was a San Antonio holiday tradition, performed at the historic Arneson River Theater on the Riverwalk, in schools, churches, and private homes throughout Texas.

Memorable Moments

2003

The Night the Lights Went Out

During a packed Christmas Eve performance at the Arneson River Theater, the power went out mid-show. Damian finished the entire second act by candlelight, and the audience gave a standing ovation that echoed down the Riverwalk.

2010

Three Shows, One Day

On a particularly busy December Saturday, Damian performed Bah Humbug three times in three different locations across San Antonio—a morning school assembly, an afternoon corporate event, and an evening show at the Arneson.

2019

The 500th Performance

A milestone celebration as Bah Humbug reached its 500th performance. Former audience members from the very first show in 1995 attended, some bringing their children and grandchildren who had grown up with the tradition.

What Audiences Say

We have been coming to see Bah Humbug every year since 1998. It is not Christmas without it.

— The Martinez Family, San Antonio

Damian IS Scrooge. I have seen many versions of A Christmas Carol, but none have touched my heart like this one.

— Audience member, 2018

My kids grew up watching this show. Now they bring their kids. Three generations of Christmas memories.
